Home Made (RSS feed)

My name is Marek Kuziel. This is my web log about turning a house into a home.

Back in 2002 I was into building my own Linux systems. Linux From Scratch is the name of the project I was using to do so.
When you finish building a new Linux system and boot up for the first time, you are done. You've got it working. The new system can now function by itself.
At the same moment, however, I realized I just got to a starting point!
Having bare brand new system was great, but it may take even longer until I turn the new system into what I really want have out of it.

I had the same feeling when we moved in to our new shipping container house.

We moved-in in February 2012. We run everything in a temporary mode: laundry, bath, kitchen, toilet, heating, lights, …

My plan is to create intelligent, fully automated and robotised home, connected to the grid, but independent enough to act as a standalone unit. Pushing generated energy back to the grid ie. electricity is desirable. Growing and making own food is another part of things that can be "home made" and will be noted here, too.
